About The Children

Every child at Grace has a unique story, but their common bond is that they are at risk of not realizing their full potential. The children come from families that are poor and many come from single-parent-homes. These families face challenges accessing basic education, generating a sustainable income and maintaining their health.

Many of the parents we encounter received no formal education. This is increasingly true of the mothers we meet. Often they work in some of the lowest paying jobs available to provide what little they can for their families. Some of the families at Grace earn less than $30 a month with which they struggle to support several children. Some of the parents have serious health problems which further limit the support they can provide.

The small village of Betim Ramnagar stands in isolation. There is not much there, and for the children there are few social, emotional and physical outlets available to them. Some of the young children we teach were found playing in mud. They had poor health, hygiene and diets. Other children can be found playing in the local garbage dump as there is no playground. They often sit idle, bored and with little to do. They could easily be taken advantage of.

Some of the children were not enrolled in school when we found them. For others, they are lagging behind, facing the very real possibility of failing altogether and dropping out of school before completing even primary level education.

With support from Grace Educational Trust, these children now stand a chance of succeeding. They are bright and eager to learn. They are excited to come to Grace’s learning centre where they receive the care, attention and guidance they deserve. Grace also works with parents to help build stronger connections between the children and their families, so that their education and development can be equally supported at home.

We are supporting these children and their families – by giving them hope for a brighter future – and a chance to end the cycle of poverty that many generations have faced.
