Grace Programs for Children in Need

Early Childhood Development

Grace’s learning centre provides a safe and nurturing environment for young children between the ages of 2 and 5. Learning more each day, they explore themselves and their environment and are exposed to new things with the care and guidance that Grace’s teachers provide. Students at Grace learn basic health and hygiene, and are exposed to the foundation skills for literacy and numeracy. Students are given the opportunity to express themselves creatively and engage compassionately with the world around them. Strong emotional and educational support in a child’s early years is critical to success for life.

Bridging

Some school-age children were not enrolled in any school when we found them. Grace works with these children and their families to raise awareness about the importance of education. We do what we can to encourage parents in the community to send their children to school. Grace’s learning centre helps these children with the transition to structured schooling. They come to the centre and are provided with education and guidance that prepares them to enter mainstream schools. Some of the children we began working with in 2006 are now in formal schools!

Tutoring
To promote and enhance learning, Grace works with children between the ages of 6 and 12 in an after-school tutoring program. The low quality of public primary education is one of the key challenges that India is facing. Often classrooms are overcrowded and student engagement in learning is low. This program gives special attention to every child, helping each to develop according to his or her own needs. It provides that extra boost of support that can make all the difference: helping to build children’s confidence, increasing their chances of succeeding in school, and improving their likelihood of staying in school over the long-term.
